What began as a hobby 6 years ago, has become an essential part of school-ware for children and teachers around the UK. The business was started by husband and wife Andrew and Jenny Branscombe. Their goal was to help the educational sector by supplying school aprons that are more durable and longer lasting, while offering great value for money. Wise Owl Aprons is becoming a national brand with many of their orders coming online through their secure website, where account facilities are available for school and colleges.
Wise Owl Aprons offers a simple choice of aprons and tabards made from poly cotton and PVC fabrics. They come in a variety of colours and sizes from 3 to large adult. The aprons have an innovative design where the neck halters are fully adjustable, which means a better fit for the variable sizes in an age range, and the waist ties connect via side release clips to avoid the time consuming knots.
Feedback from their customers has been a great part in implementing the new designs and features,
“We have always thought that working closely with teaches and addressing the issues that they have experienced in the past, was the best way forward to developing a range of aprons that answers a lot of the daily problems such as protecting school uniforms and time saving through ease of use.”
Amongst the large number of pitfalls that a new company has to face, there is the very topical subject of plastic use.
“It has been a dilemma; how to provide a waterproof apron in this anti plastic environment? I think it would be impractical in our modern world to do away with plastic all together, so we feel the way forward is to make sure that the products we make are durable and long lasting. They are all easy to clean and to maintain the strict levels of hygiene that are required.
The quality speaks for itself; the fabric is very tough and we make sure that they are finished to a very high standard, which ensures they will endure for a long time. What else do you need to guarantee great value for money?
As a company we believe that by producing a PVC apron or tabard that lasts for several years we will be vastly reducing the amount of plastic that is either incinerated or sent to land fill. We are in talks to see how we may recycle old PVC garments, and hope to set up a recycling service for old aprons, with discounts for the new replacements.”
UK Aprons and their school range Wise Owl are expanding and will continue to develop new products for UK schools. They acknowledge the support they have had from the clients and suppliers and are definitely looking to the future.
